Can team performance be boosted with an app?

Starting this spring: a new research project run by Stockholm School of Economics in collaboration with Influence. The project aims to test a digital solution for increased team performance based on digitized assessment and reflection.

Stockholm School of Economics is now ramping up a research project that builds on its established research field Collective Intelligence. The purpose of the research is to find out if Collective Intelligence can be improved effectively with the use of standardized assessments and interventions through a digital platform.

The Collective Intelligence Platform (CIP) is a digital solution that aims to enhance team performance. This is achieved by allowing participating teams to navigate through a repetitive process with assessments, reflections and learning segments on Collective Intelligence.

It is crucial for organizations to build intelligence

Today we face high sophistication and complex organizations in our daily operations. Organizations need to cope with an unprecedented level of complexity in order to reach their goals. This complexity is increasing due to technological development, but also the mere fact that we tend to increase our ambitions and objectives in organizations.

The complexity organizations are facing cannot be solved solely by making structural additions to the organizations and work processes.  In fact, we are at a tipping point where further structural addition may be contra productive and reduce efficiency by adding more complexity to an already too complex structure. The structural layer, including rules and common ways of working, in an organization is important. This is the foundation of efficiency, but it is not the solution to adaptability and innovation.

However, in order to make collaboration kick in, as well as creativity and smooth innovation to take place, a second layer is needed – the intelligence layer. The ability to create a highly adaptable intelligence layer will become a crucial competitive factor in tomorrow’s business life. This layer is based on work groups’ ability to integrate individual team members’ knowledge, experience and intelligence, i.e. Collective Intelligence.

Implementing CIP in an organization has the potential to develop the highly adaptable layer of intelligence on top of your non-flexible structural layer.
